Shane Landen, Lookout Ford I love the auto industry because no two days are the same and any person with customer service skills can grow with the business to reach their dreams. Gerry Pollock, Gorno Automotive Since I was a child I have always loved cars! I played with hot rods and I raced sports cars. Cars were, and still are, a big part of life. My career after college and the military started in finance and banking. A customer was the manager at a large dealership in the area. They were starting an F& I department, and he was looking for a manager. That was over 30 years ago. It was the best career decision I ever made. I transitioned to a number of positions over the years. I never felt like it was hard work. I loved the business because every day was different. The only constant in the business was change. The product has changed so dramatically since the 70s it is unreal. The modern car is more complex than the lunar lander. The challenges were learning to adapt. Not many industries that market big ticket items to public have lasted over a century. I am proud to say I am in the business. Jerrod Farrand, Manheim Detroit I love it because it is ever-changing. With all the options available to buy and sell mixed with the technology being developed daily, you need to evolve with the business to be successful. Glenda Ivey, ADESA, Boston Just when you think you have seen it all, something else happens that takes the cake. There's never a dull moment. Every morning is a brand new day. Jason Mitchell, Classic Southeast Texas Chevy/Cadillac/Buick/GMC I love the auto industry because you never know what to expect, and the income potential is truly unlimited. Stephen Malara, Pine Belt Auto Group I love the auto industry because, after 35 years, I still look forward to each day. I meet new people, confront new problems, and deal with issues that are new even to me. I am continually amazed that every day is different, especially when something comes up that I can say "you can't make it up!". We may not have as much fun as years ago, business may be harder to earn with more choices for customers and less money for them to spend, but where else can you start the day with only a smile and a pen and make a living while you change someone's life. AUTO DEALER MONTHLY POLLED MORE THAN 300 EMPLOYEES IN THE DEALERSHIP FROM THE FRONT OFFICE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND A FEW EMPLOYEES OF AUTO INDUSTRY SUPPLIERS, ASKING THEM ONE SIMPLE QUESTION: WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY? HERE ARE THE RESULTS: the people 24.6 % the variety 23.1 % nature of the industry 23.1 % opportunities the 12.3 % challenge the the fun 10.7 % 6.2 %
